Abstract:
MIMO-OFDM is the generally accepted standard in the recent WLAN systems. However, this method
increases training signals required to estimate the propagation matrix of multi-antenna system employed by
IEEE 802.11ac and above. In this study, we investigate methods of shortening Very High Throughput-Long
Training Field (VHT-LTF) preamble signal in WLAN systems to improve the effective throughput
performance of the system. On the transmitter side, preamble shortening routine is employed and a subsequent
recovery on the receiver side using estimation algorithms. Several data recovery methods were evaluated with
different reduction schemes of the preamble signal. Simulation results have shown that ½ VHT-LTF Preamble
can be used while maintaining a considerable transmission performance.
