Abstract:
The study sought to evaluate the drivers that facilitate the implementation of strategic plans by SACCOs in Muranga County. The study identified four main objectives namely: assessing the extent to which technology influences the successful implementation of strategic plan. To assess the influences of human resource management on the implementation of strategic plan: to evaluate the effect of leadership on the implementation of the strategic plan: To determine the effect of organizational structure on successful implementation of strategic plan. To achieve its objectives the study adopted a descriptive design with quantitative approach where a semi- structured questionnaire was administered. The target population was 528 members of the management committee of the 48 duly registered SACCOs in Muranga County. The study used stratified sampling techniques to draw a sample of 159 members of the management committee. The members of the management committee from each cooperative consisted of the chairman, treasurer, secretary, manager, and the ICT manager. To establish the drivers that facilitate the implementation of strategic plan, the data collected was analyzed using SPSS to generate descriptive and inferential data. A regression model was developed to establish the strength and direction of the relationship between the independent variables and implementation level of strategic plans of each cooperative participating. The study found out that IT was the most important driver which influences strategic plan implementation. In addition, leadership and human resource were equally important though their influence was not as strong as information technology. While organizational structure was relevant its influence was minimal in comparison to the rest of the drivers under consideration. The study recommended enhancement of the leadership in Sacco's hiring more qualified staff, ensure compliance to the Societies’ Act since it emphasizes effective governance, adoption of IT and hiring of qualified staff.
