Abstract:
The field of health geography has become extremely useful in understanding the bigger picture of public health. The combination of geography and GIS, public health and informatics has provided a method of showing how countless health issues impact populations and the trends by which these populations are affected. This research project endeavored to create a web GIS to assist health decision-makers on making well-informed decisions on location or allocation of the various services in the county of Elgeyo-Marakwet. The datasets used were the existing health services, population data, and road networks. The web GIS enabled users to create service areas for the various facilities, assess their accessibility allow users to ascertain the percentage of the population in any given service catchment who are served by a specific health service.
